Stretch Your Budget While Earning Extra Christmas Cash

By: Cathleen Paul

In today's economy, many consumers are getting nervous about the upcoming Christmas season. That is why it is really important to stick within a budget while earning a little extra Christmas Cash on the side. That way, you can face the new year without additional financial worries.
Do you normally have a budget in mind at Christmas time only to find yourself going over it year after year, or worse yet depending on credit cards? If so this is a great time to start looking over your spending habits and see where you can improve to give you some extra Christmas cash now as well as extra money in your budget all year long.
If you need extra money then consider working evenings or weekends over the holidays. Many retailers do offer temporary help and this may even snag you a store discount. If however, you just don't have time for a part time job then how about listing some unwanted items on eBay? An even quicker way might be selling gently used items at a consignment shop. Not only will this bring in some extra Christmas cash but you will be making room in those overflowing closets. After all, you are going to need space for those nice new Christmas presents that Santa is sure to bring you!
If you do not have any experience selling on eBay then it might be helpful to look at some current listings and see if any of the items that you have are selling. Kids jackets and winter clothing that are in good condition should do well this time of year. Try putting a few different items together and sell as a lot (buyers love this because they save on shipping). Just make sure that they are the same size and for the same season.
Besides eBay you could earn some extra Christmas cash by taking your gently used items to resale shops. Call in advance to find out how much they are willing to pay and what they are accepting. For example, many consignment shops will only take seasonal clothing. If you are lucky you will find a shop that takes baby items, household items, furniture, etc. Just be sure that clothing is clean, free of rips and neatly pressed. Other items should be cleaned up first to get top dollar. Some consignment shops will pay you cash up front while others will split the profit with you as your items sell. You may not make as much as you would selling on eBay but you will save a lot of time in the long run.
You might find it easiest to budget your money by starting your shopping early and checking out the sales fliers. On the other hand you will find some amazing deals in the few weeks leading to Christmas. If you don't mind the stress of last minute shopping then you can make your Christmas cash go far. However, some items such as certain toys and video games should not be left until the last minute or you may find them out of stock.
You can also save time, money and gas by doing your holiday shopping on the internet. Many online retailers have really good deals this time of year to help you save more Christmas cash. Many online retailers are also accepting Paypal. Owned by eBay, Paypal is a great alternative to using credit cards online.
These are just a few holiday tips to help your Christmas cash stretch a little further this year and every year.
