How to Find Recipes That you Can Add to Your Mom Blog

By: Arika Lewis

If you're like many mom bloggers, you may run out of things to talk about on occasion. Or maybe you just get tired and don't feel like chatting some days, but you know you need an active blog if you're going to make money -- and many bloggers rely on their blog income to feed their families. So, how do you attract more readers and the search engines to your blog on a daily basis? Easy! Add a recipe of the day to keep your blog fresh and tasty. But, where do you find recipes that you can use? Before I tell you the answer, let's get the legal stuff out of the way.

To keep from violating any copyright laws, you can not just take recipes out of cookbooks or magazines and type them into your blog. You'll absolutely want to be sure that any recipe you use does not contain the original directions word for word. Both recipe instructions and recipe collections may be copyright protected. Therefore, you have to use other options.

So, what are the other ways to find recipes that you can use?

Your Very Own Recipes

Do you have recipes that you make for your family? It could be meatloaf with a special ingredient or salsa with a twist. Take a look at all of the meals that you have personally invented (or altered).

If so, type them into your blog. They are yours to do with as you wish. Anything that you pull directly from your own head -- is free to use on your blog.

Family & Friends

Do you have a collection of your mother's or your grandmother's recipes? How about your favorite aunt?

Ask your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. to contribute their favorite recipes to your collection.

Hire a Writer

Another way to get recipes for your blog is to hire a ghostwriter to write them for you. This is a great way to save time and focus your energy elsewhere be it on your website, marketing efforts, or something else. Keep in mind that hiring someone will cost money. However, for most the cost is worth it when you look at the time and effort necessary to do it yourself. You'll have more time to focus on other aspects of your business. Also, you can assign a project to a freelance writer and have it back quicker than you might on your own. You might check out elance.com or shelancers.com for starters.

Private Label Rights (PLR) Recipes

And, last, but not least... my favorite way to get recipes for your mom blog is to get PLR (or private label rights) recipes. Why is this my favorite? Easy.

You aren't stuck coming up with all of the recipes yourself.

You don't have to pay someone else to write them for you.

You can edit the recipes as you wish or leave them just like they are.

You can use and reuse the recipes as much as you'd like. You can even compile them into a downloadable cookbook that you can sell from your site.

You can get a lot of PLR recipes for cheap. Some PLR sites sell them for less than a dollar each.

Every PLR service has its own rules, so check it out before buying.

A final tip: I recommend that you edit your PLR recipes so they are unique. Some ways to do this are:

Change the directions slightly.

Give the title a bit of pizazz.

Give the reader some additional tips. Maybe a favorite side disk or a way to speed up the preparation.

You now know just how simple it is to add a "recipe of the day" to your blog. I hope you get started right away so your blog bring in some hungry readers.
