Have You Wondered What A Blog Is?

By: Don Bethune

Internet usage is now all the rage for people to engage in communication with one another. Although people use email, instant messenger and chat, others have begun to create a type of online diary that gives others the chance to both read and comment on the writings. Blogs have become ever more fashionable, being authored by celebrities of stage and screen as well as various places of business. But our first question remain, what is a blog?
A blog can be a personal journal that is written online and shared with all and sundry or it can be a forum for your political statements. A blog can allow you to track media events or connect with customers on a more personal level. Family members now have blogs simply as a mechanism to stay involved and in contact with their far flung family members.
And what is the purpose of a blog? First, it gives the author a mechanism to share his complete thoughts on topic without censorship of any type. Many blogs give their readers a way to comment on their topics. Still others are created solely to create debate or generate discussion.
Some bloggers post pictures they have taken online, some even post videos of their activities. Others may share items that other authors allow to be shared online. Bloggers frequently post links to other favorite websites, such as those belonging to friends, or even sites owned by those who comment.
Blogs can be insanely popular, and garner a lot of website traffic. Some of the most popular web sites on the internet are strictly personal blogs of individuals who we would otherwise have never heard of. People can gain celebrity status just from creating a popular blog.
A blog can also become a source of income for the author. First and foremost is the oldest method of turning your web site into a lucrative endeavor: advertising. Many bloggers offer advertising space on their site for a nominal fee. There are also multiple advertising management programs that bloggers can apply to, that deliver content-targeted ads, and pay the blogger for the views.
Blog owners may use many methods to gain some free website traffic, such as holding small contests, or offering some interesting and unique content elsewhere on their web sites for their visitors. They may even invest money in some paid website traffic, to get raise their popularity and perhaps create more revenue for them through advertising.
So, when you again wonder, can anyone tell me what a blog is? You now are aware than itas more than just a haphazard compilation of a personas thoughts; itas instructional, funny, or simply gives you something to think about. A blog can generate additional income for itas author, and, if it becomes very well like, it can provide its author with a full-time job.
