Choosing the Best Affiliate Marketing Programs for Success

By: Jude Wright.

It can sometimes be difficult to decide on the Best Affiliate Programs to choose. Some new affiliates try to get as many affiliate programs as they can, feeling that the more they have, the more money they will make. This kind of thinking can lead to a big let down when it comes time to count the profits. Choosing the correct affiliate products is critical to to the success of your marketing campaigns so do your research before making your final sources. Here are some criteria you should keep in mind.

You should choose affiliate products that match the topic of your website. And, your website should be on a topic that you are an expert on or that you are very interested in. If you are choosing products that you know nothing about you won't know the best ways to pre-sell them. This, of course, will affect your bottom line. You'll also lose your motivation in promoting the product and it will just sit there without any payoff.

The affiliate program must be of good quality. Make sure that the product owner is reliable and has an effective sales process in place. Read the sales letter. Does it make YOU want to purchase the item? If it does, that's a good indication that others will want to buy it as well. Email or contact the support desk to see how quickly you get an answer. You should receive an answer within a couple days; if you don't, it could mean that the company is not reliable. Remember: your trustworthiness is on the line when you select an affiliate program.

The affiliate product should be something that people are looking for. Do a Google search for the product to find out if this is a product that is "hot" or up-and-coming. If nobody wants it, it won't matter how you promote it. It just won't sell. The higher the market demand, the more sales you will get...and, you'll have to do less work to get those sales.

You became an affiliate marketer because you want to make money. So, choose affiliate products that pay a decent commission per sale. Information products are generally good products because their commissions can run 50% or higher. It takes the same amount of time to promote a program that has high commission payouts as it does the lower, so choose those programs that pay the most - providing they fit into your niche. Another option would be to look for products with lower commissions but a higher product cost.

The affiliate product should have a high conversion rate. Some companies publish this information right on their website. If they don't, you can contact them and ask them what their sales conversions are or you can join the affiliate program, start your promotion efforts and track the sales yourself. If you their sales page isn't performing, it could be time to change products. Be sure that you are targeting the market that the product is for when doing your testing.

The affiliate program that you are considering must have a good support system in place. There should be contact information available on their website, either in the form of a help desk, email and/or a telephone number that you can call. Look for those companies that provide sales materials. They know their product better than you do so should have ads that you can rewrite in your own words. Companies that provide affiliate training are also among those that are the best affiliate programs to look for.

How much time do you have? Will you be able to devote a substantial amount of time toward promoting another affiliate program? Do you already have loads of products that are not getting the attention they deserve? Don't waste your precious time adding an affiliate product to your arsenal that you won't have the time for.

Read the Affiliate Agreement. You will sometimes find unexpected loopholes in the fine print. Some affiliate programs won't pay unless you make a certain number of sales. If they are requiring 8 sales, and you only make 7, you're out of luck.
