Buying Tickets On eBay - Are They Real?

By: Allison Thompson

Are you finding it difficult to get hold of tickets for a big event you want to see? If you are, then it may be worth your while thinking about using eBay as a resource to find the tickets to any event that you want to go to. However, you need to be aware that not everyone who is selling such items of eBay is offering you the genuine article.

Therefore, before you go handing over your money, you need to make sure that you are buying from a seller who is honest. Plus you need to make sure that they are going to be sending out the genuine article and they are providing you with what you are looking for when it comes to seating. There are a number of steps that you can take which can help to ensure that you get what you have paid for.

How To Make Sure That Your Tickets Are Genuine

The first that you should be doing is checking the seller of the tickets out. EBay has two great programs which buyers can use one that offers feedback on the seller and the other which rates the seller. Using these two programs can help you to determine whether the seller you have selected is right for you or not. Look closely at their history, are they someone who has sold tickets before? Look at the feedback given, have they been prompt and honest with other buyers? Also did the buyers get what they asked and paid for? It is for this reason that eBay have designed this system so one can quickly determine whether the seller is right or not. As you look at the feedback and ratings of a seller make sure you choose those who have an overall rating of between 97-100%. Yes, they may have a couple of bad reviews does not mean that they may treat you in a similar fashion to those who have provided negative feedback.

The description should tell its own story as well. The description of the tickets for sale should tell you when the event occurs, specifics about the event, and where the seating is located. The venue name may also be there, which will then let you know where the seating is located with a view of the venue map.

Know what you should be expected to pay. Most people are not allowed, by law, to sell the ticket for more than its worth. Do your homework. Research the event itself, the venue, and know what the prices are for tickets prior to bidding.

If something does not seem right or you still need to know something, do not hesitate to write the seller. EBay provides you with a way to contact the seller to ask questions if you still have some.

You may well find that some sellers will have uploaded a digital or scanned photo of the tickets themselves on to eBay and in some cases they may also have attached a copy of the receipt to show that they purchased these legally. This is certainly great, but not always will a seller provide this information, other than may be where the price of the tickets are very high.

Trust your gut instincts at the same time, if something does not feel right, go with it, your conscience generally knows best. Lastly, you should also use a trusted form of payment, typically PayPal or your credit card. PayPal offers what is called Buyer Protection, which could protect you if something were to happen to the tickets.
